  1. Love. Bread. Bread is my favorite! This is what Oprah says about her Weight Watchers commercials. I hear it every time I think of bread. It is a phrase I repeat often to anyone who listens. I get you Oprah! I love bread too!

In the last two decades bread has been deemed unfit for human consumption. I can assure you that I have lost weight and maintained my weight without ever removing bread from my diet. Every day I eat a slice bread. Except for my 7-days on Brightline Eating, of course!

I love bread and believe you can lose weight with it. So I set out to find the best low-calorie bread. Low-calorie bread can be included in my diet.

What bread has low calories?

The majority of regular-calorie bread found on supermarket shelves has between 90 and 110 calories. You will notice that the bread you see on supermarket shelves is very low in calories (below 50 calorie) and is often so light it cannot even be spread with butter. It tastes like fresh air!

There is something else! Low-calorie bread is filling enough to eat and can be topped with peanut butter. These are my top four favorite low-calorie, hearty, and filling breads that I found at my local supermarket.

Low-calorie bread that tastes great

1. Dave’s Killer Bread Thin-sliced Powerseed. 60 calories

The Dave’s Killer bread, Thin Sliced Powerseed is my number one choice for low-calorie bread. (I’m not sure why they charge so much, but another Dave’s Killer thinly sliced bread via amazon is more affordable. It is cheaper to buy it in the shop. This one is very filling and hearty with 60 calories. The 240mg of Omega 3 is what really excites me! This bread is delicious for sandwiches and toast.

2. Franz Organic Protein bread 85 calories

My second choice is Franz Organic Thin Cut PROTEIN, a bread I just discovered. One slice has 85 calories and 5g of protein. This bread is delicious!

3. Harpers Homemade Bran bread 80 calories

This bread is my third choice. It’s a bread that I have been buying for at least 10 year. This bread was a staple in my family’s childhood. It was the only wheat bread I believed was soft enough to be tasty. It also contained 3 grams of fiber and 4 grams protein, which was a bonus for me. It is low in calories and the most affordable of all the breads that I enjoy.

4. Dunford Bakers

Finally, if Harper’s Homeade is not available in my local store and I don’t wish to spend more on specialty breads, Dunford Bakers Wheat bread can be a solid alternative. Although it is a bit “wheaty”, the bread has only 70 calories. That’s amazing!

Low-calorie bread runners up

These last four are great options, even if I don’t like them as much.

Although the cheesecake factory bread is delicious, it’s too dark for my children to eat.

Oroweat 70 calories

Oroweat organic thin-sliced has 70 calories but is light and airy.

Sara Lee 45 calories

The Sara Lee white bread is 45 calories. It is too light and airy.

Franz Keto 40 calories

Franz bakery offers a Keto bread at 40 calories. I took a picture of it but didn’t want it to cost $5. I don’t like Keto foods.

Aldi’s Active 35 Calories

This bread has 35 calories, which I haven’t tried, since I don’t live near an Aldi’s.

Aunt Millie’s 40 calorie bread (40 calories)

Another one that I haven’t tried because I haven’t seen it in the store. It’s a great find! Aunt Millies 40 calorie bread.
