Instagram Will No Longer Promote Reels with the TikTok Watermark

Instagram has updated its algorithm to prevent Reels with TikTok watermarks from being promoted.

Instagram doesn’t want users to post TikTok video clips on Reels. This will allow Instagram to post more original content on Reels than re-posting content posted by its competitors. Reels allows users to post vertical videos that include music or sound from Instagram’s library.

Devi Narasimhan, spokesperson for Instagram, told that the company was customizing the experience so users could explore entertaining and fun videos in the Reels tab.

Reels and TikTok are identical in format, so users often post the same video to both platforms. However, TikTok videos get a watermark when they are published.

Reel users who post videos with TikTok watermarks may not be promoted. These stories will not be banned or hidden by Instagram, but they may not get a push or appear on the Reels feed.

Instagram encourages users to create fresh and new videos using songs from Instagram’s music collection, not TikTok.

Reels is not a standalone app like TikTok. Instead, it lets users find short, entertaining videos from creators around the globe.
