Siri doesn’t have to be used just because it exists.
Siri is a virtual assistant that works on iOS or Mac. However, if you don’t use it, or want to disable Siri for any reason, you can do it easily. To disable Siri, use the Settings app for your iPad and iPhone.
Siri is disabled if you turn it off.
How to turn off Siri
Go to Settings > Siri and Search on your iOS device with iOS 11 or higher. Turn off Siri (the buttons will become white when disabled). To confirm, use Turn off Siri.
Tap Turn off Siri to dismiss the message about Dictation still being on Apple’s server. If you do not want to turn off Dictation, please see the instructions below.
How to turn off Siri (iOS 10).
It is a slightly different process to turn off Siri on iOS10. To toggle off Siri, go to Settings> > Apple>. To confirm your selection, tap Turn off Siri

How to disable the dictation features on iOS
Disabling Siri will result in the loss of voice commands on iOS devices. It is therefore logical to also disable Dictation on iOS devices as it will no longer work. If you want to delete all your voice data from Apple’s servers, this is also necessary.
On iOS 12, 11, and 10, the same procedure applies to turning off Dictation.
- Go to Setting> > keyboard.
- Scroll down to the bottom and disable the Enabled Typing toggle switch.
- Tap Turn off Dictation in the confirmation box.
How to disable Siri on macOS
It is easy to disable Siri on a Mac.
- Select System Preferences from the Applemenu
- Select Siri.
- Clear the Allow Siri checkbox.
- This will turn off all other functions, including the Siri icon in the menu bar.
How to disable the dictation features on macOS
Disabling Siri macOS is similar to Siri iOS. However, it doesn’t remove all your voice data from Apple servers. You will need to disable dictation in order to do that.
To turn off the feature, go to the Applemenu. Select System Preferences. Next, select Keyboard. Finally, click on the Dictation tab.
