How to Create an Instagram Group

Instagram and other social media platforms such as Facebook allow you to share photos and stories, and even chat with your friends. Some options, such as creating an Instagram group, aren’t so transparent.

This article will show you how to create an Instagram Group. You’ll also find useful tips and tricks to use Instagram groups and navigate through the settings.

Getting Started

The browser version of Instagram does not support direct messaging. If you only need to see a post or story from someone, we recommend that you avoid it.

Instagram groups aren’t very popular because this feature is often hidden. It takes some effort to locate groups on Instagram, but once you do it, everything is quite simple. We’ll walk you through the whole process step-by-step.

How to create an Instagram Group

Let’s get to the point. To create an Instagram group, follow these steps:

  1. Get the Instagram app for Android and iOS.

  2. Tap the Direct Message icon at the top-right corner.

  3. Tap the Create Group icon at the top-right corner.

  4. To add people to the suggested list, look at the circle next to their names.

  5. You can also tap on the Search Bar and type in the names of the people you wish to add.

  6. After you have added the people, tap the Chat option at the top-right corner.

  7. You must send the first message before the group can be created. You can then name the group and notify other people about the messages and existence of the group.

  1. Start the IG App.

  2. Click on Direct Messages.

  3. Choose the group chats that you would like to join.

  4. Click the “See group members” button.

  5. Scroll down to tap on “Add People” (big plus icon).

  6. You can add members at any time you wish.

You can also start video calls with the group. However, this is not recommended for large groups. Video calls will require a reliable and fast internet connection.

You can see who has seen your post when you send it. When you connect to the internet, this information will be immediately updated. Logically speaking, an internet connection is required to communicate in groups and to upload files or photos.

One final tip: You can actually unsend a message within a group chat. You can simply long-press the message that you wish to delete and then press Unsend. The message will disappear thanks to a poof animation.
