Here are the things you need to know before you delete your Google Activity History
Before you delete all of your activity history, you need to know a few things.
- You cannot retrieve your history after you have deleted it.
- Even if you delete your history, any new activity could still be recorded.
- Google apps can track your activities on your device even if you’re not logged into.
- You have the option to delete all history.
It is possible to recover your history but it might be worth performing a backup.
If you are really interested in the history of Chrome activity, Android device usage, and your YouTube searches history, it is worth thinking twice. It can be very useful to have a look back at if you haven’t deleted it before.
How to back up your Google Activity History
Here are some tips to back up your data before you delete your Google activity log.
- Go to your Google account management webpage.
- You can choose Personalization from the available options.
- Scroll down and you’ll find the Download data option. To proceed, click on it.
- Select the services that you wish to back up your activities. All data is defaulted to; you can choose not to have all data.
- Next, you’ll be asked to select the file type and the method of receiving the backup. You have two options: you can get the backup directly in Google Drive, or via email.
This process can take several days if you have lots of data. Wait for the process to complete before you delete your search history or other activities.
How to delete all your Google activity
All of your Google activity can be easily deleted or you can delete it all at once. Google offers granular settings that make it easy.
Here’s how to delete all of your activity.
Retire One Activity at a time
All your activities are listed when you visit My Activity.
It’s easy to delete any item from your activity history.
Simply click on the X button to delete it.
All Activities Cancelled Within a Specific Time Period
You can delete all data from your My Activity page by specifying a time period. As shown below, use the delete option.
Filtering your activity is also possible if you don’t want your entire activity history to disappear.
You can choose from a range of options that allow you to pick a time period or all. You can choose what is best for you.
You will not need to confirm your search activity or other google history deletions. Your data will be immediately deleted once you are done.
Google Search and Device Access Activity can be deleted
You can go to the My Activity page to navigate to the App Activity option.
Scroll down and locate Manage Activity. Next, delete all search history or device access history.
If you wish, you can also delete specific searches.
Each activity category can be auto-deleted from your My Google Activity page.
Click on App Activity. you will need to go to the auto-delete menu (which is disabled default), and choose the time period you would like to have activity deleted automatically.
Auto-delete activity older than three months. You will need to follow the steps above in order to delete any activity that is more recent.
How to disable Google Activity Tracking
You can choose to pause any activity that is saved to your account if you don’t want it to be stored.
You should note that you can’t access your activity history if you disable it. Personal recommendations will also be lost.
You will need to go to My Activity, then click on the activity you wish to disable tracking.
- Web Activity & App Activity: disallows you from saving your search history or device access history.
- YouTube History: does not save your YouTube search history or videos viewed.
After you have toggled any of these off, you’ll see an additional confirmation that includes more information. You can proceed if you feel comfortable.
