How to fix delivery pizza
Hot pizza tastes best straight from a 800 degree wood-fired brick oven. Even commercial pizza ovens with temperatures up to 600 degrees can still make great pizza. It’s just that after 30 minutes, the magic of a pizza is gone. Even the best pizza can become a soggy mess once it reaches you.
Let’s face facts. You’re going to order pizza delivery. It’s a fact. It’s okay. As long you are willing to do it. Here are some tips to elevate your delivery.
Turn the oven on to 450
This is a great technique for when you have more than four people and the pizza won’t last more that 15 minutes.
Delivery usually arrives within 30 minutes. This is enough time to heat up your oven to 450 degrees. Turn on the oven immediately after placing your order. You can use a pizza stone to bake your pizza. If you don’t have a pizza stone, place a large sheet pan in your oven. The pizza should be on something hot.
Once it arrives, you should immediately open the box to let the steam escape. Slide it onto the sheet pan or hot stone and then back into the oven. It should bake for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes slightly darker. It should take between 5-10 minutes. It should become crisp again once it has darkened a little.
One slice at a.m., crisp up the bottom
This technique is great for a few people and produces a crisp, clean bottom.
Once the oil arrives, heat a large skillet on medium heat. There is no oil needed. When the skillet is hot, add one slice of bread (or more if necessary). Turn down the heat and allow it to sit for three minutes. To make sure that it doesn’t get too dark, check it every few minutes. My slices tend to get a bit burnt. I like the slightly charred flavor of coal oven pie.
To warm the top of a cold or room-temperature slice, you can place a lid over the pan. The crust is so thin that any heat from the bottom will travel to the top within a few minutes.
Pizza loves good quality parmesan or pecorino Romano
For delivery pizzas, I keep good quality grated cheese in my fridge. A sprinkle of parmesan on a boring pizza can make it a lot more delicious.
The finest quality pecorino romano and parmesan grate into a consistency of sand. It is fine to pregrate, but be careful with the shredded variety. If it looks like cheddar, it is likely that the product is not of high quality or hasn’t been aged for long enough. It is always better to buy an imported block of cheese and then grate it yourself.
Pizza loves good quality extra virgin olive oil
This is the best stuff. A small bottle will set you back around $20, but it is well worth the investment. A great olive oil is fruity, spicy and peppery. It’s perfect for drizzled on pizza. Although you may think pizza is already oily enough, it’s surprising how much olive oil can enhance the flavor of your pizza. Although it won’t make pizza taste greasier it will add a wonderful kick to it. It won’t make your pizza seem greasier, but it will give it a beautiful kick.
Garlic gives depth to any dish, even dry garlic powder.
I love raw garlic. It can brighten up many foods with its aromatic kick. Delivered pizza is one of these.
If I want dark garlic flavors, I add garlic powder to my pizza delivery. This is best done with granulated garlic. Garlic salt is unnecessary since the powder is too fine. Pizza is already salty enough.
I love to add garlic to pizza delivery by crushing raw garlic and mixing it with olive oil. The oil and garlic are then drizzled on to my slice. Raw garlic gives the slice a bit of spice and brightness. It’s impossible to eat a slice of this without it.
Pizzas are great with hot sauce
Although it may sound odd, most hot sauces are great on pizza. You can use any hot sauce, from Tabasco to Frank’s Red Hot to spicy caribbean habaneros. It doesn’t matter if it is super hot. Hot sauce’s vinegar is the star. It cuts through the cheese’s richness and the sweetness of the tomatoes. It creates a more balanced, magical end product.
You’re welcome. Now go order your pizza.
