8 Solutions to Fix MMS Download Problems

Method 1 – Reboot Your Phone

No matter what the problem is, a simple reboot can be very helpful. This is the easiest thing you can do. Although it sounds vague and general, it works. Your mobile can also resolve many problems, just like other electronic devices. The Android system will fix any bugs by rebooting your phone. Hold down the power button until you see the power menu. Click on the Start/Reboot option. Check if the problem persists after the phone has restarted.

Method 2 Verify your Internet Connection

Multimedia messages need a stable internet connection in order to be downloaded. You can’t download multimedia messages if there isn’t an internet connection on your device. Scroll down from the notification panel to ensure that your WiFi or mobile data are switched on. To check your connectivity, open your browser and browse some websites. Or maybe you want to watch a YouTube video. Try switching to mobile data if you have trouble downloading MMS via Wi-Fi. Many network operators do not allow MMS downloading over Wi-Fi.

Method 3 Enable auto-download MMS

You can also enable auto-download of MMS. Your Android smartphone’s default messaging app allows you to send SMS and multi-media messages. This app can automatically download MMS when you receive them. To learn more, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the default message app from your device.

  1. Now, tap the menu button (3 vertical dots) at the top-right of the screen.

  1. Click on the Settings button.

  1. Click here to access the Advanced menu.

  1. Simply toggle on the switch beside Auto-download MMS.

  1. If you’re not in your country, you can enable the option of Auto-download MMS while roaming options.

Method 4 Delete old messages

If there are too many messages, it may prevent new messages from being downloaded. There is a limit on how many messages you can download from the default messenger app. To free up space, delete any old messages. After the old messages have been deleted, new messages will be downloaded automatically to fix the MMS download problem. The device you use to delete messages will determine which one. Some devices let you delete all messages with a single click in the Settings, while others do not. You might need to choose each message separately and then delete them. Although it may seem tedious, this is actually a very efficient process.

Method 5 – Clear Cached and Data

Each app stores some data as cache files. The corrupted cache files could be the reason you cannot download MMS. To fix the problem, clear the cache and data for the app. These steps will help you clear the Messenger app’s cache and data files.

  1. Next, go to the Settings section of your phone and then tap the apps option.

  1. Select the Messenger App from your list. Next, click the Storage button.
  2. Now you will see the options to clear cache and clear data. Click on the buttons to delete the files.
  3. Exit settings, and then try downloading another MMS.

Method 6: Eliminate Problem Causing Apps

The error could be caused by third-party apps. Task killing, cleaner, and anti-virus applications can cause problems with your device’s normal operation. They could prevent you from downloading MMS. If you have these apps, it is best to remove them. You should start with task-killing apps. You are ready to go if that solves your problem.

If you are unable to uninstall the cleaner app, then proceed to remove it from your phone. If the problem persists, the antivirus software would be next. It would be unsafe to completely uninstall anti-virus software. You can disable it temporarily and then see if the problem resolves. If none of these solutions work, the problem could be with another third-party application you have recently downloaded.

Safe mode is the best way to ensure that your device works properly. Safe mode disables all third-party apps, leaving only the system apps. It is possible to successfully download MMS in Safe mode. Safe mode can be used to identify the root cause of your problem. These are the steps that will allow you to enter Safe Mode.

  1. First, hold down the Power button and wait until the Power menu appears on the screen.
  2. Tap and hold the Power Off option until you see the Reboot to Safe Mode options.
  3. Just click the OK button to reboot your device.
  4. The device will start in Safe mode when it starts. All third-party applications will be disabled. To indicate that your device is in Safe mode, you will also see Safe Mode written in the corner.

Method 7 Change to a Different Application

You don’t have to stick with the same technology as before. Instead, look for better options. Many popular messaging and chat apps allow you to send photos and videos via the internet. These apps are free, unlike default messaging services which charge extra for MMS. Some of the most popular messaging apps are WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Telegram. These apps allow you to make free voice and video calls. You only need an internet connection to make these calls. These apps offer many cool features that make it a better choice than the default messaging app. We strongly recommend that you switch to one of these apps. Once you do, you will never look back.

Method 8 Do a Factory Reset

If all else fails and you really want to use your messaging application to download MMS, then a Factory Reset is the only option. It will wipe your phone’s data, settings, and apps. The condition of your device will be the same as when it was unpacked. All problems will be fixed automatically, it is obvious. A factory reset will delete all of your apps and data as well as other data such photos, videos, music, and other files from your phone. It is recommended that you make a backup of your data before performing a factory reset. When you attempt to factory reset your smartphone, most phones will prompt you to backup your data. Either use the built-in tool or manually backup your data.

  1. Go to Settings on your phone.
  2. Click on the System tab.
  3. If you don’t have a backup, click the Backup data button to save your data to Google Drive.
  4. Next, click on the Tab to Reset.
  5. Click on the Phone option.

MMS problems can sometimes be caused by the carrier company. Some companies won’t let you send files larger than 1MB, and others won’t allow files to be downloaded over 1MB. If this persists after you have tried all of the above-described solutions, you should contact your carrier or network service provider. Switching to a different carrier service is an option.
