22 The Best iPhone Games Ever

Explore the gaming excellence of Apple App Store

It’s difficult to find great games among the hundreds of thousands of apps available on the Apple App Store. Most App Store classics are not available for the next generation of iPhone users unless the App Store has an older game featured on the front page. These are the top iPhone games.

These selections have been arranged alphabetically in the interests of fairness.

Angry Birds II

What We Like

  • Choose your bird
  • Daily challenges keep your mind active.
  • You can play for free.

What we don’t like

  • Pop-ups are designed to convince you to visit Facebook.
  • Younger players may find it too difficult.
  • Sometimes it can be a bit glitchy.

Angry Birds2 was an Editor’s Choice and one of the most downloaded apps on the App Store. It’s easy to see why. Its combination of physics gameplay, well-constructed puzzles and cute characters can both entertain and frustrate. This is a great puzzle game.

The game started out as a puzzler, but it quickly became a marketing success story that led to countless sequels and other sister titles. Despite some being fun (Angry Birds Transformers is one example), none of them have managed to match the originals. Start here if you haven’t played an Angry Birds Game.

Clash of Clans

Larry Lunchbox / Flickr/CC BY 2.0

What We Like

  • Amazing mustaches
  • To improve your battle skills, you can use Practice Mode.
  • You will find it challenging enough to keep you interested.

What we don’t like

  • You can’t control what is targeted.
  • Your account may not follow you if you change devices.
  • It is possible to improve the raiding system.

Clash of Clans is a top-rated app in the App Store charts for many years. The game’s unique mix of combat, army creation, base-building and leveling creates an almost inextricable loop that players can enjoy. Its creators would not have it any other.

You can farm resources to play. These resources can be used to build new buildings, defend your base, and/or hire troops.

Clash of Clans was not the first of its kind (although a few Facebook titles such as Galaxy Life or Backyard Monsters were before it), but it is the best. Clash of Clans is a great addition to any of the “me too”, games that came after it. Nothing can lift your spirits like hearing the cries of barbarians.

Clash Royale

throttlelwp44/ Flickr/Public Domain

What We Like

  • The theme, style and characters of Clash of Clans are different.
  • Unlimited troops
  • This game is for those who like to collect cards.

What we don’t like

  • You must wait for hours until your chest opens after four wins.
  • It’s buggy.
  • It is possible to feel compelled to spend money.

How can you make a large property even more valuable? You need to think about the core and create a new game around it. Clash Royale, the first spin-off of Supercell’s base-building hit Clash of Clans, retains the player versus player strategy appeal but uses completely different gameplay.

You compete in real-time battles by building a team using cards that you collect. Then, play the cards to unleash various troops on the battlefield. One player can take down the castle of the opponent player and emerge victorious in a matter of minutes. This will give you a chest with more cards, which allows you to deliver more troops.

Crossy Road

Bago Games / Flickr / CC BY 2.0

What We Like

  • Simple design that looks great in iPhone
  • It’s a timeless arcade game that has endless appeal.
  • Engaging and keeping you playing.

What we don’t like

  • Pop-up ads can be annoying.
  • The chances of getting duplicate characters seem high.
  • Can freeze during gameplay.

Crossy Road took inspiration from the arcade game Frogger and set a new standard in free-to-play gaming. The one-tap interface makes it easy to use on the go. And everyone will be able to understand the basics from the first tap. Cross the road and you won’t get hurt.

Crossy Road is the reason you can remember playing a game in which you earned currency to unlock random creatures and add them to your collection. Then, you watched a video to increase your currency, and you had a happy smile on your face.

Similar to the above, if you have played a recent game with a voxel appearance other than Minecraft there is a good chance Crossy Road was also present.

Cut the rope GOLD

Alexas_Fotos / Pixabay / CCO

What We Like

  • Based on real physics.
  • It’s easy and fun, but it can be challenging.
  • You can also find videos and cartoons on the companion YouTube channel.

What we don’t like

  • You are not allowed to play.
  • Younger players may find it difficult.
  • The third season is available for $4.99

Developer ZeptoLab took a different approach in the early days for the App Store. Instead of trying to replicate the success of Angry Birds by creating inferior clones, developers tried to do the same. Instead of trying to create the next Angry Birds game, developers wanted to create the next physics puzzle. It worked. Cut The Rope was just as popular as it was entertaining, and Slice the Rope GOLD builds upon that success.

It couldn’t be simpler: Om Nom, your pet monster, must have a nutritious meal of candy. It takes careful planning and quick fingers to get the candy into Om Nom’s mouth. The candy will fly, swing, and fling itself across the screen when the strings are cut in the right places at the right times. It’s impossible to smile even when you fail, and you will fail.

DEVICE 6

What We Like

  • What if a book is also a game? Winner!
  • Great audio.
  • Truly unique gameplay.

What we don’t like

  • The ending is somewhat weak.
  • It’s priced at $3.99, which is in the middle price range.
  • For the hard of hearing or deaf, it is not possible to play.

These can be called interactive fiction, gamebooks, or narrative adventures. It doesn’t matter what you call them, it is clear that reading can be turned into play.

DEVICE6 is not a traditional gamebook, but that’s what makes it so appealing. Rather than following a choose-your-own-adventure style, DEVICE 6 presents individual chapters formatted as works of art. Sentences can change in direction, and there are wrap-around visuals to tie the story together. Audio cues add new elements to the story. You’ll find the answer to the puzzle within the story, which you can use to move on to the next chapter.

However, don’t expect to find the answers you seek. Instead, you should be willing to read the whole story again in order to find the answers.

Fruit Ninja Classic

Halfbrick

What We Like

  • Amazing sound effects
  • There are four modes that offer a wide range of play options.
  • Play with your friends or on your own.

What we don’t like

  • Sometimes it can be glitchy.
  • Did we mention the ads?
  • You can buy in-game items for as little as $10

Your iPhone makes it easy to slice and dice fruit.

Fruit Ninja is one of the first great high-score chasers available on the App Store. This game was not just about splitting produce, but also about beating your personal best. You must swipe your finger quickly to destroy as many fruits as possible while trying to avoid the bombs that could end your life as a sword-wielding king.

Halfbrick Studio, the studio behind Fruit Ninja Classic has done a fantastic job keeping the experience alive and eventually releasing the (equally excellent) Fruit Ninja 2.0 update, which added much to the experience.

Blizzard

  • Play with your friends or alone.

What we don’t like

Kero Blaster

Studio Pixel

What We Like

  • Excellent controls.
  • Amazing music.
  • Classic arcade feel.

What we don’t like

  • It’s short and simple.
  • Pricey at $5.99
  • There have been no updates since 2017.

Many gamers have expressed their frustration with platformers on mobile devices. It takes careful thought to make the controls work, so adding guns to the mix is like asking players to slap their heads and rub their stomachs at the same moment. It’s clear that classic games such as Contra and Gunstar Heroes do not have an app equivalent in the App Store. Or do they?

Kero Blaster , by Cave Story’s creator, solves the run jump-shoot problem by letting users adjust a slider to control which direction your lizard hero fires in. This game is a joy for old-school players thanks to its beautiful 8-bit art, beautifully crafted levels and brutal difficulty.

Kingdom Rush

Ironhide

What We Like

  • Each level has its own unique environment and geographies.
  • It’s free.
  • It’s challenging, and there are multiple ways to tackle each level.

What we don’t like

  • All heroes are not equal.
  • Some in-game purchases can be quite expensive.
  • Some levels are more intense than others and can feel a bit sluggish.

There are many tower defense games available on the App Store. But Kingdom Rush is the best. You can scale your strategy as you face each new challenge on each map.

Kingdom Rush works well because of the limited number of buildings you can upgrade. You may start with an Archer Tower but you can transform it into a Musketeer Garrison or Crossbow Fort.

The game also features powerful hero units, which are a key part of the overall experience. You might also be interested Kingdom Rush Frontiers on iOS or Kingdom Rush Origins on iOS.

Lara Croft GO

Square Enix

What We Like

What we don’t like

Monument Valley

What We Like

  • Amazing visuals.
  • Expand your game with expansion sets
  • Surprisingly, these puzzles are challenging.

What we don’t like

  • The storyline is not terribly complicated.
  • Too little.
  • Sometimes gameplay can be slow.

Monument Valley is the best game as art in the App Store. It plays like a living, painting by M.C. Escher. You assume the role of Ida. She is a princess on an important mission. You’ll help Ida navigate her environment by moving things in unimaginable ways.

The puzzles are charming and the art is breathtaking. Monument Valley doesn’t require a lot of effort, but it’s not impossible. You will feel more like a caretaker than a gamer when you open new avenues for Ida.

Monument Valley might look familiar, and you may have seen Frank Underwood play it on House of Cards . It was so captivating that it became an important plot point for the third season of House of Cards.

Ridiculous fishing — A Tale of Redemption

What We Like

  • This game is full of humor.
  • No in-game purchases.
  • It’s easy to play.

What we don’t like

  • This page has not been updated since 2017.
  • The violence may not be appropriate for children.
  • Not optimized for iPhone X.

Fishing is a peaceful and tranquil activity. What could possibly make this seem absurd? What about throwing the fish in the air after reeling them in and then shooting them from the sky with a shotgun.

Vlambeer’s angler to hunter experience won Apple’s Game of the Year award in 2013. It’s easy to see why. This game is a combination of three fun, but different experiences. You guide your fishing line away to fish to sink it as low and touch every fish on the return trip up to catch them. Then, tap like mad to blast sea vermin from the sky.

Although it’s not the best way to make fish and chip, who doesn’t like traditional?

  • It’s easy to play, but difficult to master.

What we don’t like

  • You must play it in order to fully understand it.
  • After wave 20, the difficulty level increases dramatically.
  • Artificial intelligence could be improved.

Games that attempt to implement real-time strategy on mobile devices are rarely successful. Clash of Clans, which is a variation of real-time strategy, is the only example that has impressed. rymdkapsel is the exception.

Rymdkapsel, a minimalist strategy game that focuses on building rooms and assigning workers, is what you need to be able to survive the next wave alien invaders. Rymdkapsel is not a game that’s ideal for mobile devices. However, you’ll find that you enjoy every minute of it.

What we don’t like

  • It is a delicate game that requires precise timing.
  • Younger children may find it difficult.

Live

One Man Left

What We Like

  • It’s fun to play and it’s engaging.
  • Share your top scores on Twitter or Facebook
  • There are four types of games.

What we don’t like

  • iPhone XS and XR resolutions not supported.
  • It can be a little bit difficult to use.
  • This may be inappropriate for children younger than 5 years old.

Tilt To Live was one of the first iPhone games to utilize tilt functionality. It’s still one of my favorite games. It’s a game about survival and avoidance. To guide an arrow through the sea of red dots, tilt your iPhone. The dots can be turned around if they reach a power-up but only for a brief time.

Tilt To Live is not only beautiful to control, but the design ethos behind it — players must quickly pivot from defense to offensive — is flawlessly executed.

Tilt to Live fans will be interested in the game’s sequel, Tilt to Live2: Redonkulous iOS.

Vainglory

Super Evil Mega Corp

What We Like

  • Battles are more fast-paced than other titles.
  • Regular updates and new skins.
  • The characters are very well-designed.

What we don’t like

  • You can spend as much as $49.99 in-game.
  • It would be useful to have in-game tutorials.
  • It’s a great community, but it can be difficult for beginners to scale up.

In recent years, MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arena) have seen a surge in popularity. PC gamers love these team-based, free-to-play games. Mobile? MOBAs are a tougher sell.

Vainglory stands out as an exception to this rule. Vainglory is a game that combines a single map with a variety of characters and gameplay that appeals equally to MOBA and mobile gamers. It’s also extremely accessible for newcomers.

Vainglory, a MOBA game that allows you to compete against other players for territory, is the best MOBA experience available on the App Store. Call of Champions may be easier for beginners but Vainglory remains the 800-pound gorilla.
