Huawei Super Device is the next step in super-powered productivity. It streamlines your work process like no other.
The Super Device was first introduced to us by Huawei in March at the MWC in Barcelona. We have been testing Huawei’s own ecosystem since our return to verify that it works with Huawei’s tech.
We’re happy to report that it does. If you are tired of wires and devices that don’t work together, then Super Device is worth looking at.
What is a Huawei Super Device?
You can find a detailed explanation of what Super Device is in our guide for Huawei’s tech ecosystem. To explain it briefly, Super Device is Huawei’s proprietary IOT, meaning that you can connect several devices together–wirelessly–for an incredibly seamless experience.
For example, let’s say you have a Huawei MateBook 14S, a MatePad11 and a PixLab printer. We can understand your expectations that there will be many problems with connectivity between all these devices. Huawei’s Super Device allows your Huawei devices to communicate with each other and offers a multi-faceted experience that can be tailored to your specific needs.
It is wire-free so you don’t have to worry about wires tangled behind your desk, or spend three hours trying print address labels on devices that are supposed to work together, but don’t. The Super Device streamlines your productivity and makes it easier and more efficient.
The Testing Kit
Huawei provided us with an entire ecosystem to experience Super device. This allowed us to fully explore its IOT capabilities. These were the test units that we received:
- Huawei MateBook 14S (laptop)
- Huawei MateView (4K monitor)
- Huawei MatePad 11 and M-Pencil (tablet with stylus, keyboard and magnetic wireless keyboard)
- Huawei P50 Pro (smartphone)
- Huawei PixLab X1 (multifunction laser printer)
There are many options, and several devices that can be used together.
Huawei Super Device Connectivity Increases Productivity
Huawei HarmonyOS, and by extension Super Device, has one main goal: to enable all your Huawei gadgets, including the HarmonyOS, to communicate quickly and easily with each other. Super Device allows you to use your devices in a variety of ways, making it easy for you to improve your productivity. Each connection can be looked at individually.
Let’s first talk briefly about how devices are connected. It’s very easy. All you have to do is open Huawei PC Manager and then click on Super Device. The device you are using will appear in a floating bubble. Any other Super Device compatible tech will appear in its own bubble orbiting the central device. Simply drag one bubble to the central gadget and voila! You’ve connected all your devices.
You can use your smartphone multiple ways with the PC to smartphone Super Device pairing. This allows you to wirelessly transfer files between your smartphone and PC, or vice versa. You can wirelessly transfer photos taken with your Huawei P50 Pro to your MateBook 14S using Super Device.
A facsimile display of your smartphone will also be displayed on your laptop screen. This allows you to use the majority of the functions of your phone, such as answering WhatsApp messages and making calls without ever picking up your phone. This can help you focus and allows you to quickly answer messages without having to pick up your phone.
You have three options when it comes to PC to tablet super-device pairing. The tablet can be used in Mirror, Extend and Collaborate modes. Mirror, as the name implies, is a mirror of your laptop screen. This allows you to use your favorite digital art program with the stylus to create a quick sketch that can be manipulated back at your MateBook. You can see how this could simplify your creative process.
You can extend the mode to make your tablet a second screen to your laptop. This is great if you are looking to work on two screens at once in a coffee shop where space is limited. You can use the MateBook’s keyboard and mouse to interact with your MatePad. With a simple swipe action, you can also transfer text, files or images between them.
The PC to Super Device pairing works much the same as a tablet to tablet. There are a few exceptions. Mirror mode and extend modes work the same as with tablets, except that the MateView does not have a touch screen. This is wireless projection so you don’t need an HDMI cable or any other cable to connect your devices.
Huawei also offers pop-up connectivity via Super Device. Your Huawei printer will automatically pair wirelessly with your smartphone via pop-up connectivity. This is a common problem for anyone who has tried to print a single page from a smartphone or PC to an HP printer.
Super Device is a great tool for productivity. But did you know it could be so powerful?
Huawei Super Device: A Harmonious Experience?
Super Device has been my daily workstation for the past several weeks. I can confirm that it is a great ecosystem from a productivity standpoint. It’s even more impressive if you add creativity to the mix.
The MateBook 14S can wirelessly project between the MateView monitor and my laptop. I no longer need to connect my monitor to my laptop via HDMI. Super Device was all I needed to set my monitor up in Extend mode. This means that I have a larger work monitor beside my laptop’s screen. It is perfect for word processing which I spend most my time doing.
The MateBook can also be connected to the P50. Full disclosure: I have a condition that makes it difficult to focus and causes me to be easily distracted by everything. My phone’s screen is on my laptop screen so I can quickly answer any urgent questions without having to pick up my phone.
I can leave my P50 in a different room and turn it on do-not-disturb mode via the MateBook. This means that I can answer important calls but not other distractions and can physically not pick up my phone to check it. It is a huge productivity boost for me personally.
Super Device can streamline the workflow for digital artists and graphic designers. It’s easy to see how it could be a great tool for those who are involved in similar pursuits. Although I do not work in digital design, the MatePad 11 is a powerful combination that allows me to put digital pen to paper with the MateBook 14S. Mirror mode and the use the stylus make this possible, something you cannot do with a laptop.
Connectivity was flawless. I had no issues connecting devices or keeping them connected. I had no issues with connection drops during testing. This is crucial if you want to improve your workflow. Super Device is ready to go as soon as I turn it on. I can connect with any compatible device in my vicinity by simply swiping my finger.
This was a great printer connectivity feature that I enjoyed. I spent a lot of time staring at my HP inkjet wondering why it wouldn’t print my girlfriend’s Vinted postage labels. Pop-up connectivity between my MateBook 14S (and the PixLab printer) allowed me to connect straight away, click print and have a laser printed document in seconds. Imagine!
Super Device makes it easy to use, improves productivity, and lets you connect a remarkable number of proprietary devices together. This is something that Google, Apple, and Microsoft could benefit from more carefully. This connectivity is innovative and you can see the results of Huawei’s R&D department. A harmonious experience? Indeed.
Huawei Super Device in a Nutshell
The Huawei Super Device is now in use. We are eager to see what Super Device brings to the table. Given that Huawei announced the ecosystem only in early 2022 we are also excited to see how Huawei will streamline our workflow as new Super Device features arrive on our desktops. We are impressed by the simplicity and connectivity of the Super Device so far and have awarded it the MUO Award for Outstanding Device Connectivity.
MUO has sponsored and affiliate partnerships. This means that we get a portion of the revenue from your purchases. This doesn’t impact the price of your purchase and allows us to make the best product recommendations.
